Park Chan-yeol (Korean: 박찬열 ; born November 27, 1992),[i] amend known mononymously as Chanyeol, is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, actor and model. He is a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy grouping Exo, its sub-group Exo-G and sub-unit Exo-SC. Autonomously from his group'southward activities, Chanyeol has also starred in various goggle box dramas and movies such as And then I Married an Anti-fan (2016), and Underground Queen Makers (2018).

Early life

Park Chanyeol was born in Seoul, South Korea. He attended Hyundai High School in Apgujeong-dong, Seoul. He has an elder sister named Park Yoo-ra, who is a sometime announcer at South Korean broadcasting station YTN,[2] and MBC. Chanyeol was admitted to a private acting institution when he was sixteen years sometime, where he became good friends with Block B'south P.O.[iii]

Later on watching School of Rock in elementary school, Chanyeol became interested in music and soon began playing the drums.[4] Chanyeol wanted to be a singer after listening to Unconditional Kismet by Yoo Immature-jin.[5]

Chanyeol has cited Jason Mraz and Eminem as his biggest influences, though he was a fan of stone bands like Muse, Green Day, Nirvana, and Ten-Japan in middle school.[6]

Chanyeol became a trainee under SM Amusement afterward winning 2d place in the 2008 Smart Model Competition. While training nether S.M., he began to turn his focus towards rapping. Prior to his debut, Chanyeol made cameo appearances in TVXQ'southward "HaHaHa Song" music video and Girls' Generation'south "Genie" music video in 2008 and 2010 respectively.

Career

2012–xiv: Career beginnings

Chanyeol became the last Exo member to be officially introduced to the public on February 23, 2012.[ commendation needed ] He possesses a baritone singing voice.[7] The group official debuted on Apr 8 with the extended play Mama. He made a guest appearance in Girls' Generation-TTS's music video for their debut single "Twinkle". In October 2013, Chanyeol joined the cast of SBS' reality Goggle box prove Law of the Jungle during its filming in Micronesia.[eight] He as well composed and recorded an original soundtrack titled "Last Hunter" for the show in 2015 after rejoining the show.[ix]

In 2014, Chanyeol wrote the rap for the Korean version of the track "Run" from Exo's 2nd extended play Overdose and was featured in label-mates Henry's 2d extended play and Zhou Mi's debut EP.[ten] [11] In May 2014, he became a regular cast fellow member of the showtime season of SBS' reality TV show Roommate. He left the show in September 2014 due to schedule conflicts.[12]

2015–present: Acting, songwriting and Exo-SC

In April 2015, Chanyeol made his large screen debut with a supporting function in the Southward Korean pic Salut d'Flirtation, which starred Park Geun-hyung and Youn Yuh-jung.[13] He afterward starred as the male atomic number 82 alongside actress Moon Ga-young and swain Exo members in the web-drama Exo Next Door.[14] In June 2015, Chanyeol, along with fellow Exo members Chen and Lay, co-wrote the Korean version of the track "Promise" from Love Me Correct, the re-released version of Exo'due south second studio album.[xv] He later wrote the rap for "Lightsaber", Exo'south promotional single for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was after included in their third extended play Sing for You.[16]

In Apr 2016, Chanyeol wrote and performed the rap for the vocal "Confession" from Yesung'southward debut extended play.[17] In Exo'southward third studio album Ex'Act, which was released in May 2016, he co-wrote the lyrics for the track "Heaven".[eighteen] In June 2016, Chanyeol starred aslope Yuan Shanshan and characterization-mate Seohyun in the South Korean-Chinese moving picture So I Married an Anti-fan. In January 2017, Chanyeol played a supporting office in MBC'southward drama Missing 9.[23] In February 2017, information technology was reported that he had allegedly registered himself every bit a music producer under the pen name "LOEY" with the Korea Music Copyright Association.[24] Later in February, Chanyeol collaborated with South Korean singer Junggigo on a duet titled "Let Me Love You".[25]

On April 25, 2019, he released his starting time solo song "SSFW" through SM Station.[28] On June 28, information technology was confirmed that Chanyeol forth with his fellow Exo fellow member Sehun would debut equally the grouping's second official sub-unit of measurement Exo-SC, and they released their start EP What a Life on July 22, 2019.[29] [30]

Personal life

Along with fellow Exo members Suho and Baekhyun, Chanyeol attended Kyung Hee Cyber University and took online classes for Civilisation and Arts Department of Business Administration.[32] Prior to his enlistment, Chanyeol took graduate studies at Inha University for interior design.[33] [ needs update ]

Chanyeol enlisted into the military equally an active duty soldier on March 29, 2021.[34]
